Softball Ulster are keen to promote softball in Universities and Colleges around Ulster. This is an important part of our strategic plan and we are currently working to introduce softball as an intervarsity sport in Ulster.
There has been an active intervarsity league in the Republic of Ireland for a number of years the prominent members of this league are University College Dublin, University College Limerick and Waterford Institute of Technology. This league is run with the support of softball Ireland. It is run through a series of weekend competitions throughout the university semester (usually in Nov, March and April). The program is currently under expansion to other universities and plans are underway to include the Ulster region in the league. Softball Ulster is currently introducing softball to Queen's University. 2009 has also seen softball been introduced to a number of universities - NUI Galway and University College Cork.

A very successful introduction to softball was held during welcome week at QUB. American Sports Equipment and Softball Ireland provided a batting cage for the the event and with the help of local softballers, we managed to get the word out about a softball club starting up in Queen's. There was a large expression of interest and things are looking positive for the formation of a club and team in QUB.
This event will introduce the QUB students to softball. We will run some basic drills and play a game. There is no cost or entry fee to the PEC for this event. All QUB students/staff are welcome. Softball is played outdoors but for the purpose of this event and some training sessions these will be held indoors to ensure they are not postponed due to the weather.
